Camels, ships of the desert.

The hardy camel !!

Some interesting facts...

The Arabian camel is the one humped Dromedary. Its two humped cousin is the Bactrian and mostly found in Asia. Camels have been in use since 1800BC on the silk route from Asia to Africa carrying incence, spices, ivory, gold, & silk.

No I'm fine thanks. I had a drink 23 days ago.

In winter, camels can go without water for up to 50 days! In summer, only 5.

Where's Alice??

Camels can drink 130 litres of water in 10 minutes.

Anyone got a lighter?

Camel poo is so dry it can be used as cooking fuel immediately. Pretty handy!

Camels can allow their bodies to rise and fall between 36 - 42 degrees C. Thats 6 degrees. In humans, a rise of 3 degrees will result in vital organ damage & eventual death. They are capable of losing 30% of their body weight in water. This would kill any other animal. Sure are pretty tough individuals!!

Does my hump look fat in this?

Camels fat is stored in the hump.

Are we there yet?

Riding camels can travel 130-190km in a day.

It's sure hard being this hot!

Camels can drink salt water.
